At Essex Marine Aquatics we're on the search for highly motivated part-time staff with a passion for marine aquatics.
Experience keeping marine fish and corals is desirable but not essential. As a minimum all applicants should have some tangible experience with animal management and have some knowledge of the animals we keep and the hobby we support.
What we do,
We provide friendly, helpful and accurate advice to customers. We provide 'above and beyond' customer service and sales advice in store and online.
Alongside customer service we take exceptional care of the animals we look after. We take pride in the presentation of the animals, their housing and the overall presentation of the store and stock. High standards are required in a busy and successful retail environment and it's a team effort to bring it all together.
Duties for all staff include,
- Giving advice relating to animal care, animal and product selection.
- Handling aquatic animals
- Maintenance tasks
- Merchandising
- Cleaning
- Water and system checks and tests
- Promoting products in store and online
- Packing and shipping
- Assisting with inventory inwards.
- Product photography and image editing
- Face to face relationship building with customers
* There is an opportunity for the right candidate to take the lead on developing our online coral sales (the right knowledge, experience and skill set permitting).
Hours,
As a guide, we are looking to offer 8 to 24 hours a week to one or two successful applicants, applicants must be able to manage some overtime when required and to help cover holidays etc. Days and hours are flexible depending on the applicant.
We are also happy to consider students who can currently only work weekends and during term breaks. Whatever your situation, if you feel you are a good fit and can bring something to the business and team please get in touch.
Applicants should be,
- Passionate and caring about aquatic animals.
- Be trust worthy and work well in a team.
- Have good communication skills with the ability to speak well and act professionally when appropriate.
- Have a ’can do’ approach to work and tasks.
- Be prepared for manual work.
- Take pride in their work and be able to complete tasks accurately and completely.
- Be comfortable handling aquatic livestock including corals, fish, crabs, snails and other invertebrates.
- Be confident learning about and using computer programes and systems such word, excel, websites, social media marketing, electronic point of sale sytems etc.
Salary,
Salary varies depending on experience. Salaries are reviewed regularly.
Training,
Regular training is provided, however a willingness to learn and research in your own time in order to build your personal knowledge is desirable, marine aquatics is a huge and diverse topic.
